Chemical ReactionsFirst, we will discuss what a reactant is and how it is used in Chemistry. A reactant is defined as something that aids in the process of reactions. These include most elements found in natural gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. It is an individual molecule that acts as a catalyst for the process of chemical reactions.The reaction of a reactant is always a reaction where a reactant is put into contact with a reactant (or reagent) in the form of a substance, liquid, or gas. This can be a solution or pure compound. In an example, a reaction of a reactant is when a mixture of a liquid fuel such as water with oxygen will produce an unstable compound. This compound will in turn react with other compounds in the mixture to produce various compounds that have a particular function. We will see an example of this in the next section.As previously stated, a reactant is the catalyst for the reaction of an element with another. There are a variety of reactant s used in Chemical reactions, and each has its own unique function. A useful example of a useful reactant would be ammonium nitrate. When these two reactants are combined in a mixture, they will produce ammonium nitrate, a compound that serves as a starting point for the reaction of an element with another.As already mentioned, a reactant is used in Chemistry to put the two substances into contact with each other and to facilitate the reaction. The reactant acts as a catalyst for the process of chemical reactions. There are many reactants available, each with its own unique function and purpose.There are two methods of reacting a reactant. Either the reactant is passed between two reactants and either both reactants are in contact with one another. This is known as direct contact and indirect contact. Direct contact occurs when a reactant is directly put into contact with a reactant and is also directly subjected to a reactant. Indirect contact is when both reactants are in contact with one another, but the reactant is not in direct contact with the reactant.The second method of reacting a reactant is known as collision or combination. The reactant is placed in between two reactants, a catalyst and the reactant to undergo a chemical reaction. In this method, the reactant and the catalyst are in direct contact with one another. When both reactants are in direct contact with one another, they will undergo a chemical reaction.The use of an excess reactant is very important to any Chemical reaction. Too many reactants will cause a chemical reaction to go too far too fast and not allow enough time for the reactants to react with one another. Too many reactants, however, will cause a chemical reaction to go too slow and prevent the reaction from occurring at all. Too little reactant will cause the reaction to occur too slowly and prevent the reactants from reacting with one another.In a reaction, a reactant may react with another reactant or a reactant may simply re act with the catalyst. In a chemical reaction, the reactants will react with one another or the catalyst. The reaction of a reactant is the process of putting two reactants in contact with one another and causing them to react by creating the desired result. Chemical reactions occur with a catalyst acting as a catalyst.
